Where, when and how can I fly my drone?
Where can I fly?
There are many places you can fly, but there are also some places you cannot fly a drone regardless if it's just for fun or if it's small. We strongly recommend that you download to your smartphone a drone map and always check your location before liftoff. As a general rule of thumb you should also:
- Check for local drone flight laws and or regulations. This may vary from city to city, state to state and country to country.
- Never fly near other aircraft, especially near airports.
- Never fly over groups of people, public events, schools, or stadiums full of people.
- Never fly near emergencies such as any type of accident response, law enforcement activities, firefighting, or hurricane recovery efforts.
- Do not fly in airspace where flight operations are prohibited.
When can I fly?
- You can fly your drone in daylight when the weather is good.
- Do not fly in windy situations.
- Never fly at night.
- Never fly under the influence of drugs, marihuana, alcohol and or any other stimulant that impairs your reaction.
How can I fly my drone?
Even if you are flying for fun you should understand the risks involved. Small or big drones there are all machines that if not used properly can inflict bodily damage and even death. Here are some general points to follow:
- Fly line of sight! This means that you should always maintain visual contact with your drone. Many people lose their drones to trees, power lines and or structures because they are looking to their screens instead of the drone.
- Share the fun and never fly alone! Hey, let's be honest if you are the pilot you will want to look at the screen to frame your shots and capture awesome footage. Unfortunately, this means that you will break a line of sight with your drone. To solve this issue share the fun of flying and have a friend be your spotter. It's always a good practice to have a designated spotter that will always maintain a line of sight.
- Plan before you fly! If you are flying for fun or for commercial use always go through a preflight checklist before each flight.
